Jim Worden Haahaa ....yes indeed. This was a wonderful day not long ago when my niece was married. Very interesting day. Her father is Iranian (and very nice) and her husband is Jewish. Great on being in Bristol. Not far from us.

Charles: I am semi retired I suppose. I live in Bristol and fly fairly regularly. Looks like you are at a wedding considering your pic. I am an elder in the Methodist Church and have seen those bubbles before :).

Jim Worden → Charles: Hi Charles......Thanks for the welcome. I'm about 50 miles SE of TYS. Am retired now, at least from aviation. Seems I am busier now than when I was working. Take care.

  • Charles Has anyone viewed the video link about Plane Spotters?  At our local airport people take pictures and movies all the time and I have never seen an officer pull a gun and put people on the ground.  And I think even I know the difference between a shoulder mounted missile and a camera.  Curious where these events took place.

Hi Peter. Holy cow, time has flown since we discussed this issue last. Sorry I have been so slow to reply. Now I better understand the situation. If not in VFR using VASI there is no way the G/S for the parellel runway should be used as the only approach aid. So, excuse me. You were well within good CRM standards to challenge this approach. Again, sorry for the long delay. Cheers, Jim

Now Peter........what in the hell is wrong with you? It does not appear that the PIC was actually flying any component of the left approach here. The only nav aid was a VASI? And he wanted to use the co-located glide slope as a backup? Nothing wrong with that as long as he remained VFR and only used the G/S as reference. I don't care if you are a DPE or the administrator of the FAA. Use every tool available! That is a sign of a good pilot in my book. Where was the danger? I think you are out of line here.
