Has anyone heard any details on the discontinuation of Auto Fuel, being allowed in aircraft? From what I had heard, the use of Auto Fuel IN ALL aircraft was being considered to be discontinued. This, I'm sure, won't sit well with MANY folks, but I'm sure it really won't go over well with those that spent $ buying the STC to allow them to use Auto Fuel in their Cessna 150 (for instance). Not to mention the many aircraft that just 'plane' :D don't like to run on anything but Auto Fuel. And there didn't seem to be any valid reason for the discussion. No accident data was being presented (at least not publicly), as a matter of fact, I didn't see any reason given for the consideration. They just seem to be talking about banning it, just because.
If anyone here knows anything (preferably factual), especially any FAA connected folks, please help us out and let us know what's going on. I know I'm interested in this from two aspects myself, as a pilot, and also a FBO owner/operator. I would really like to be able to offer my customers the choice of using Auto Fuel (and will, when and, for as long as I can).
Ok, well I found this link, which is basically the same as the article that I read in print.
"AUTO GAS
The item banning auto gas, EAA said, will affect 100,000+ airplanes that use car
gas in their engines under FAA STC's.
"Autofuel was not recognized as an authorized aviation fuel, nor does it suggest
that airports take actions to install self-service, ethanol-free premium grade
autogas pumps to support the 100,000+ aircraft that use autogas as their
primary, FAA-approved aviation fuel," the EAA noted.
"EAA has successfully worked with the FAA Airports Division for several years in
resolving this issue," the organization said.
